JamonPop, much more than music
As a lover of independent music and live (in the jaw), I remember with particular pleasure the day my friend and colleague José Manuel "Madriles" I spoke of the festival he himself with his friends organized annually in the town of Huelva Cortegana. JamonPop . Go win the name! The flagship product of the town + music style that will enjoy respectable. PorraRock in Antequera, Chip Music in Lucena, Viña Rock Villarobledo, "Asituna" Rock en Priego or the well-known Rock Asparagus (DEP).
And although the name may seem to JamonPop conventional after my first experience as a visitor I have to admit that the event is something really special. I'll tell you why, perhaps after what she tells you you please remove the entry and join us.
To begin, it is noteworthy that an initiative such as this particular group of friends can get together every year some of the most interesting groups emerging indie scene with English heavyweights. The poster JamonPop 2010 is more balanced: be Joaquín Pascual (Surfin 'Bichos and Mercromina) and Mr. Chinarro , or whatever it is, Antonio Luque, who tucked in a lot of very good groups with character and a remarkable career as Delorean , Bizarre Love Triangle , Leda3 or Joe Twilight . You can find more information in the poster in the festival's official website in your MySpace ("SuSpace?) or Facebook group created for the occasion.
Another reason JamonPop is greater than the sum of its parts: the geographical context. I had never walked before Huelva floor, so my first impression when arriving at Almonaster La Real was "Wow!". As it grew over time last year, we could not find accommodation in Cortegana, but this was not any problem. A quiet path through the region confirmed what we suspected: that you stay where you stay safe guess right. Do not be afraid that the dates on the festival: the temperature is perfect in those lands, comfortable warmth for the day topped with cool nights. This is what has the mountain ...
As I said before, we stayed in Almonaster The Real , a small town (less than 2000 inhabitants) located 6 km Cortegana in full Sierra de Aracena y Picos de Aroche . It is a white town, beautiful, incredibly clean and well cared for, which is a main tourist attraction shrine / mosque tenth century preserved in good condition. The town is also stage a conference of Islamic culture in which, during the October bridge, there are activities all related to the culture of Al-Andalus. As for accommodation, the hotel restaurant Casa Garcia , where we stayed during the last festival (and in this one, proof of how much we liked), has a very clean rooms, comfortable and well appointed with priceless views, his cuisine is known for being one of the best in the region. Recommend that you pack your swimsuit, because just across the street is the municipal pool, where you can take a dip. You can also enjoy delicious tapas (and surprisingly inexpensive) in the Meson Elizabeth II, with specialties from the land as chocolate eggs and castanets pork Iberian, the family who run the client offers cottages, a very interesting option to enjoy gang.
The headquarters of the festival, Cortegana , is a town of about 5000 inhabitants with a peculiar charm. Guarded by an imposing castle, the town is a maze of quiet streets and picturesque corners. This stillness is disturbed especially in July, with the invasion of JamonPop indie, and in August, with Medieval Days, one of the most spectacular and highest number of visitors from Spain. The accommodation is also affordable, quality, for example, the hotel restaurant The Aceitón offers daily menus in your living room and comfortable rooms at a reasonable price. In the village you can enjoy a good tapas in all its bars and (if you are a member or a stranger passer) casinos, but not to be missed under any circumstances ham: the triangle-Aracena-Cortegana Mayores, with center Jabugo , is known for having the best it can pass through your teeth. Do not they know your relatives are going to JamonPop, you will smell the ham trunk all summer ...
The scene of the festival is located at the foot of Cortegana Castle, a building whose construction began S. late XIII and is located in an excellent state of preservation. The site of concerts is a very well lit and with more than a correct sound. The only downside is that, when open, the last concert of the night may be the most frigid, so be sure to throw you some light jacket for those hours. And if it helps the show, jump and dance, my friend Joaquin and I certify the effectiveness of this method against the cold.
Saturday at noon you can enjoy another attraction of the festival: the hams. In the town square cut and serve ham rations price of lupins. If you are curious, You can see fine cut authentic violinists in action and ask for his technique.
Finally, I have to emphasize the mood of the audience. As I said in other articles, I have extensive experience in summer festivals, and here are marked differences. People come in groups, but these are mixed very easily, because JamonPop is a festival that engages and enjoys a loyal following. A meeting of strangers 362 days a year that we recognize each other during the weekend and share spam, good music, stories, beer, and awesome experience.
A salute tocinillos rich rich rich.
