"Ark", the return of Brendan Perry

Few bands can boast of the length of their tentacles as Australians Dead Can Dance. Since its debut in 1984 with an album titled until the release of latest album, "Spiritchaser" (1996), DCD has been recruiting followers both post punk sound as lovers ethnicity. An eclectic and uneven in their proposals, but not quality, thanks largely to the enormous talents of Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard as singers, performers and composers.

"The sesentisinco: Sinco sais ... ..."

After separation of the two musicians in 1996 were left orphans that sound glamorous, but in 2005 the developer of entertainment Own The Night brought together again on a tour in which every show was taped directly from the mixer (and I had the privilege of enjoying in Madrid).

Perry is half of DCD. More or less, depending on who you ask. I am now 53%. In his semi-solo career, Gerrard has gained significant success and recognition, emphasizing his work on soundtracks like Gladiator, Hans Zimmer, Ali, with Pieter Bourke, or Whale Rider.

However, Perry had just regaled us with a [great] album called "Eye Of The Hunter" , a collection of slow songs with an intimate surrounding air. His career turned in the recovery of an old church in Quivvy, his town of residence, as a recording studio until they took back roads and blanket for the tour DCD 2005.

Now return to the fray with a new album, Ark, from which we can hear some tracks on his MySpace (why I can not say SuSpace?). The album was composed, performed and produced entirely by Perry, and smells and tastes like DCD, except for the absence of logic unique timbre of Gerrard.

This album is less bound but richer in nuances of sound that "Eye Of The Hunter", in the predominantly acoustic sound. For example, the opening track on the album, "Babylon" , reminiscent of the epic era of the late DCD 80 (in fact, seems a more than worthy sequel to "Rakim" ) and contrasts with the air almost pop "Utopia" (actually, it seems a more than worthy replica "The Ubiquitous Mr. Lovegrove" ). The rest of the album maintains an excellent level of quality with a special touch darkwave result of meticulous work of Perry on all aspects of music production

Some might think that the fact that "Ark" inevitably evokes the best time DCD is an important advantage of the album. Indeed, those who know me know that, except in the case honorable AC / DC, my opinion about the continuity in the musical careers is very negative. I like the logical evolution of the musicians who do not obey the dictates of the market, but a purely artistic. But I miss her so much to DCD, the last of Perry has brought me a tear.

The carnival not over yet.

Greetings from barley.
